A relevant agreement was reached during a meeting between Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the ARC - Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the ARC, Ekaterina Yurchenko with Fund Director, Peter Wagner.
Peter Wagner said that Ukraine is the largest partner of the International Visegrad Fund. However, there is insufficient number of implemented projects supported by the fund in the southern regions of the country. In this regard it was decided to open the information center of International Visegrad Fund in Crimea, which is an important region in the sphere of cooperation of Ukraine with the European Union.
The center will provide information about the scholarship programs, grants, training programs for universities proposed by fund, as well as information about the Visegrad countries (Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary) on possible cooperation in various fields. At first it is planned to implement projects in education, energy conservation, support to small and medium enterprises, tourism, etc. Moreover, given the strategic position of Crimea, the fund intends to work through the Simferopol center with the South Caucasus countries.
Information center will be the first full-fledged global representation of the Visegrad Group. It is planned that the organization will start to work in January 2012.
Peter Wagner also said that this year the heads of the Visegrad Group government have agreed to increase funding of the Fund for the EU Programme "Eastern Partnership", where Ukraine is a partner. Thus, next year 1.5 million euros will be allocated for these programs.
"Now the most important thing for us is to provide information to your universities, entrepreneurs, non-governmental organizations about what could be done with the help of the Visegrad Fund" - said Peter Wagner, adding that the Fund does not provide investment, and its main task is to support "people and ideas".
Ekaterina Yurchenko said that Crimea is interested in cooperating with the International Visegrad Fund in all areas primarily for educational projects and projects that relate to the priorities of the Strategy for Development of Crimea until 2020.
Ekaterina Yurchenko also expressed confidence that the Information Centre of the International Visegrad Fund will contribute to enhancing cooperation in Ukraine and Crimea with the countries of the Visegrad Group.
