New USAID project - "Agroinvest" From 2011 to 2016 the international technical assistance project "Agroinvest", funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) will be implemented in Ukraine. The total project budget is 20 million USD.
This was noted by deputy director of USAID "Agroinvest" Project Alexander Kaliberda within the press conference in Dnipropetrovsk.
"The aim of the project is to restore economic growth in the agricultural sector of Ukraine on the basis of development of competitive agro-business of various legal forms and sizes. In addition, the project aims to strengthen the export potential of Ukraine, as a participant in the global food security initiative. The project also aims to help Ukrainian farmers to better understand and defend their land rights and thoughtfully dispose of their property to enhance a welfare of their families and Ukraine as a whole", - he said.
USAID "Agroinvest" Project works in three directions:
1. Maintaining a stable regulatory environment that will facilitate development of a market economy. USAID "Agroinvest" Project is involved in development of a strategy of market reforms, meeting the requirements of the WTO, and is working on implementing this strategy jointly with the Ukrainian government and community organizations. The project supports development of industry associations, which will facilitate implementation of key reforms in order they would be able to effectively influence on policy. The project also implements programs to improve the legal awareness in order to help citizens understand and defend their land rights.
2. Encouraging farmers access to financing. USAID "Agroinvest" Project helps small-and medium-sized producers to gain access to financial services. It works with financial institutions, suppliers of material and technical resources, machinery and equipment, processors, traders and other participants in the value added chain, supporting expansion of more affordable range of financial products tailored to the needs of agricultural producers.
3. Promoting development of market infrastructure for small and medium-sized producers. USAID "Agroinvest" Project strengthens producers’ organizations and cooperatives, as well as creates and develops effective marketing channels for small and medium agricultural producers. The project aims to help businesses and nonprofit organizations in development of wholesale and/or regional markets and development of market services and infrastructure, including creating facilities for storage of refrigerated products, sorting and packing.
USAID "Agroinvest" Project was registered in the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine as an international technical assistance project in July 2011. The Autonomous Republic of Crimea is a priority region for implementing this project.
